Goodbye, Mr. Lincoln

Something completely incredible happened on Monday September 14, 2026. No, the Atlanta Falcons didn’t win a football game-that’s a bit beyond the realm of possibility. And no, I didn’t eat a serving of Brussell sprouts or agree to sing a solo in church. So, it’s not quite that big, but it is really, really BIG.

Here it is-the United States House of Representatives held a vote and the bill passed unanimously. Every vote cast was in the affirmative, with not a single representative voting NO. In case you’re wondering like I was, one party didn’t lock the other out of the room. Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives, they all agreed on something.

It’s not just the House that is feeling downright bipartisan. On August 7 of this year, the same bill passed by unanimous consent in the Senate. WHAT? Both houses of Congress are in total agreement on something? On anything?

Yep, they all got together and agreed to quit making pennies. It’s called the Common Cents Act, and it’s estimated to save the taxpayers $56 million a year (pennies cost more to make than they’re worth). You can still use pennies as legal tender, but I’m not. I figure those jokers will shoot up in value, so I’m collecting every last one I can get my paws on.

No more “A penny saved is a penny earned.” Make that a nickel, please. Honestly, “A nickel for your thoughts” just doesn’t do it for me. Nor does, “She’s such a nickel pincher” or “He’s nickel wise and pound foolish.”

So, we’re in for a lot of change (pun intended). The good news, though, is that God’s grace still doesn’t cost you a penny. Nor a nickel. No matter what Congress says.

Golf Clubs, Mistakes, and Sins

I do not claim to know anything about golf, given the fact that I only play putt-putt and that not very well. I gave real golf a try a few times back in high school and college, but I quickly discover
